Shortly after Joe Biden declared that the 2022 midterms would be illegitimate. He also stated “I am profoundly disappointing that the United States Senate has failed to stand up for democracy”. Which is strange considering this “voting rights bill” does everything accept protecting voters.
First and foremost let us begin as is right with a brief overview of that this bill includes and how it was passed.
Passed through congress via the introduction of 700+ pages into a NASA funding bill last minute. A means that is only democratic if you are the kind of establishment slime that is OK with that kind of thing. H.R.5746. Includes:
- A federal overhaul of state presidential elections. (A violation of the constitution.)
- Extends mail in voting with said federal overhaul
- Permits non-citizens to vote.
- Overrides the separation of powers for the senate. (abolishes the filibuster)
- The elimination of voter I.D.
It is about Power and Laziness:
Luckily this was prevented with an act of democracy by one of the very few true proponents of actually democratic virtues in the democrat party, Joe Manchin. Who in an act that could only be described as the bulwark the republic. Prevented the bill from passing by debating its merits. Which turned out not to have any because it did not pass.
In-fact the democrats are so pro-filibuster that Nancy Pelosi when she the house minority leader still holds a pretty big record for using the filibuster. A whopping 5 hour speech with no breaks. Despite this, She also seems to believe the filibuster dishonors Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Curious, considering it is her party that used the filibuster for all of the things leftists and democrats typically use to condemn the filibuster. Establishment republicans are also guilty of this hypocrisy. In 2015 then House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy openly exclaimed the virtues of changing the filibuster. Despite this he was one of the people who voted against H.R. 5746 which includes the abolition of the filibuster.

The obvious inference from all of this is that factions of our Uni-party class only desire to abolish the filibuster when it is inconvenient to their ends. This facade of “fighting for the little guy” in “protecting democracy” is nothing more then a farce. The reality is even though the filibuster (debate on bills before you pass them) plays an essential role in our republic for obvious reasons. The united states lets remember has the interest of 50 independent nation states spanning thousands of miles. Perfect, no; then again nothing really is.
